Norm talks 2012 NFL draft – Feb 10
The Cowboys have to address the roster questions as it sits now. Are these young linemen (David Arkin, Phil Costa and Bill Nagy) going to be starters or at least useful backups? What are Danny McCray and Barry Church? Is Phillip Tanner now the 3rd RB? Can Josh Brent and Sean Lissemore become starters at some point? Mario Butler was a CB on the practice squad all season and they need to know if he can get on the 53 man roster in 2012? Are Raymond Radway and Dwayne Harris guys who can eventually be the 3rd and 4th WR if Laurent Robinson doesn’t resign with the Cowboys? Are you going into the 2012 season with Stephen McGee as the backup QB?
Making some decisions on those questions will greatly influence what happens in the next three months.

At some point you have to question the scouting staff and the player development department. This is what years of bad personnel decisions, made by Jerry Jones, will do to a team.
Norm Hitzges is exactly right. There are way too many holes on this team. It’s going to take at least two or three years of really good drafts before the Cowboys can become truly competitive. But by then the core players on the current roster will be in decline, and the vicious cycle will start all over again.
What a mess you’ve made, Jerry Jones. And now what are you going to do with your fancy new stadium? Host another women’s bowling tournament, broadcast another opera on the big screen, host a soccer game? It’s pathetic really.
Except Norm is wrong. Wisniewski and Watkins both played close to Nagy’s level. Both worse than Kosier. Kowalski in limited action greatly outplayed both.
Key point here is that we have more needs / holes than draft picks. Reasonable hope for a good draft class is 2-3 starters in their rookie year and if 2 more start down the road, it was a very successful class potentially. We just have so many needs and yes, it’s a product of bad drafts, such as the 2 Wiliiams LB’s and the trade for Roy Williams.
