Spagnola: “You mean you called the police on your son?”

Usually Mickey Spagnola is very vanilla, but I figured I would see what he was saying about the Dez situation. I guess he’s looking at all sides, but I guess where he is from if the kids hit the mom she is just supposed to do nothing…

Spagnola on ESPN 1660am in Waco

That was pretty weird when he said that. But it’s like he never takes a position. He is the ultimate ‘Fence Rider’ type of guy.

In any circumstance if a woman is being hit by a man she needs to call the police. Even if it’s family. Wife. Mother. Sister. Does not matter. Most cases tell you that if a guy does it once and gets away with it then it will happen again.

The more I think about Mickey saying that the dumber the statement sounds to me. It’s a crime. It’s not two brothers going at it. It’s a professional football player who is 200+ lbs angrily manhandling a woman according to the reports. And the women was saying she was tired of being treated like this and was putting a stop to this today as if it was a recurring problem.

Dumb statement by Spagnola.

DC my uncle here at my house is listening to redskins radio and heard them say dez slapped his m for tell him his pants were sagging do you know if there is any truth to that?

I’m tired of people making excuses for this jerk. He’s a professional athlete and rich, so he ought to be able to control his behavior.

There is no excuse for assaulting your mother, or any other woman for that matter.

Mickey Spagnola is the ultimate Cowboys apologist and supreme Jerry Jones butt kisser. There is no question in my mind that he was sent out to try to defuse this situation.

This is just bad all around. Making excuses for Bryant’s behavior will only make it worse.

Can we wait until Dez is convicted of something. Seriously, why is everybody in a rush to judge? Let all of the facts come out. All we have is a phone call from his mother and statements that she made to the police on Monday before he was arrested. There are 3 sides to every story: his truth, her truth and the real truth.

  4. Crazyhorse says:

You need to listen to the context of what he is saying. Just before that he says how “preposterous” to even think about hitting your mother. He goes on to say how “calling the police on your son” is just as preposterous. Again – your bias is clouding an otherwise tragic situation.

Mickey is a straight shooter folks. Been following him for years.

  6. “want something positive, well positive aint were I live”

  7. Kaotic says:

Why would anyone take his mothers words and accept them as fact? Everyone knows that this woman has a shady past, so lets wait til the truth comes out. I’m not making excuses for him, but in our country its innocent until proven guilty.

  8. The Soothsayer says:

The idiocy revealed in these comments reflects the larger problem. This hurts the Dallas Cowboys in the worst way. Now we have supposed fans hurling insults at each other.

I’m all for due process and innocent until proven guilty. But if Bryant is found guilty he faces jail time or a suspension, whether convicted or not. Nothing good can come from this.

This has been a sad thread to begin with. I’m still of the opinion that I’m not buying what Saint Angela is selling. Sadly Dez’s mom is a convicted drug dealer and did 18 months in the late 90’s, she was arrested in 2009 for selling drugs and again in 2010 for the manufacture and sale of controlled substances. There are other charges a few years back for apparently giving false statements or reports to the police. What a wonderful person and we’re suppose to believe everything she’s said and claimed. I’m amazed how Dez has been tried and convicted based on Saint Angela’s say so. This needs to be investigated and let the chips falls where they may. This is a woman whose lived on the wrong side of the law most of her life. She is not afraid of going to jail and why should her son have it any better than she does? Is that her thinking? We don’t know. It would certainly be very sad if each and every word were true. But do you really buy what Saint Angela is selling, lock, stock and barrel? Does anyone remember Tawana Brawley?
