You’re spot on in this podcast, Fanatic. Cowboys fans have got to be realistic, but they’re not.

To continue our discussion on Cowboys hatred, look, in the late 60s the fan base wanted Tom Landry fired. But Tex Schramm gave him an unprecented 10 year contract. It was a show of confidence that motivated him to 20 consecutive winning seasons, 8 Conference Championship and 5 Super Bowl appearances.

He led the team to another 3 Conference Championship appearances in the early 80s, but by the late 80s the Cowboys were in a slump. The fan base not only wanted him fired, they wanted him shot. If you remember that Landry special on NFLN, the Dallas police received a credible assassination attempt and he had to leave the field and return with a bullet proof vest. Texans don’t take to losing very kindly.

Then Jerry Jones bought the team and unceremoniously fired Tom Landry. It was a condition of the purchase, but the fan base went berserk. How could you fire Tom Landry? He’s the most revered man in Texas! The same fans who wanted him shot, complained when he was fired. This is what I’m talking about, Cowboys fans. They’re out of the freaking minds.

But then Johnson came in and turned the thing around, won back-to-back Super Bowls, and everyone calmed down a little. And then Jerry and Jimmy had their spat, and Switzer came in. I don’t think you understand, but Barry Switzer was the most hated man in the state, because of all those times he came across the Red River from OU and beat UT. But he did make it to the Conference Championship and he did win a Super Bowl. So everyone calmed down a little.

Since then it’s been flop and slop. Bad drafts, stupid trades, failed free agents, 2 wild card playoff wins in the last 16 years, the fan base is frustrated, disconsolate. We want to win. We want to win now, and we want to win consistently. Nothing else will suffice.

But what the hell do we need Harvin for? And why should we trade Jenkins for nothing? It’s beyond ridiculous.

Maybe the upgrades along the offensive line and in the secondary will get this team back on the right track. I don’t know. I haven’t seen them play. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Harvin wants out of Minnesota. Jenkins wants out of dallas. Trade them and throw in a 4th or a 3rd for good measure.

Dez for harvin is just dumb.

I do not believe Nate Newton is a good judge on who is smart and who’s not.
