Bill Jones has very interesting mock for Cowboys

Recently Bill Jones of CBS 11 in Dallas had a very interesting mock draft for Cowboys, read here.

With the 14th pick of the 2012 National Football League Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

Dont’a Hightower – LB – Alabama

Hightower played inside linebacker in Nick Saban’s 3-4 defense at Alabama. He was the unquestioned leader of the defense, calling all the plays, and playing some as a rush defensive end in passing situations. It’s that latter role that I project Hightower, at 6-4 and 260 pounds, playing with the Cowboys – a hybrid OLB/DE/ILB who can be used wherever Rob Ryan wants to in his front seven.

Interesting. Hightower is a hell of a player and he does have a burst when blitzing the QB…

He’s a beast for sure wherever he is on the field. But the Cowboys seem to have their future Inside Linebackers already on the team in Sean Lee and Bruce Carter.

And remember. Jason Garrett was the QB coach in Miami for two seasons under Nick Saban so I am sure he will get all the info he needs on Hightower.

I wonder if the Cowboys met with Hightower at the NFL Combine?

Now I am even more interested in this scenario introduced by Bill Jones.

Things like this are why this time of the year are so exciting for diehard fans.

interesting pick however i see a contradiction by bill jones here .. he says he projects hightower as late 1st rd or early 2nd rd pick yet he has the cowboys taking him at #14

why not trade down and get an extra 2nd or 3rd rd pick and really help this team out

i don’t see harrison smith lasting till our pick in the 3rd rd . from what i’ve heard we’d be lucky to get him with our 2nd rd pick

rest of his mock i don’t like . especially the te in the 2nd rd . i mean didn’t we learn from marty b

He would be a nice addition to a 4-3 alignment with Carter @ WLB and Lee @ SLB.

Sorry, he wouldn’t fit on our team! All I saw him do was hit anything or anyone with the ball, he stuck them square between the numbers. We don’t play like that. We tackle softly and lay a guy down softly or when all else fails we become human hurdles!

All sarcasm aside, Hightower looks much quicker than Upshaw. I don’t see Smith getting past the 2nd round, he looked good for a safety at the combine. Prime boosted his draft status by praising him as the days best performer. Don’t see us going for a TE in this draft. Any combo of DL, CB, S, LB & OL.
